Let's jump right into it! Allegro steps can be divided into three categories that make it easier to identify where the weight transfer happens, if there is one!
Jump
Takes off from two feet. Sauté, échappé, sissonne*, entrechat six, tour en l'air, changement
Hop
Takes off from one foot and lands on the same foot.
Temps levé, ballonné sauté, fouetté sauté, assemblé*
Leap Takes off from one foot and lands on the other foot.
Glissade, grand jeté, pas de chat, grand jeté en tournant, ballotté sauté
Some steps land (pun intended) somewhere in between these categories. An assemblé, takes off from one foot but lands on two feet, while a sissonne ouverte will take off from two feet and land on one foot.
Let's not leap to any conclusion, but these categories just might help you soar to new heights in class!
